Nirbhaya rapists to be hanged on 22 January at 7 am | Delhi court | Public Reaction

  • Nirbhaya's mother on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the judgement saying that her daughter has got justice.
  • The 23-year-old girl was gangraped and murdered by six men on a moving bus on 16 December 2012.
Four convicts in 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case are going to be hanged on 22 Jan at 7 am in Tihar jail, a Delhi court said today. The order was pronounced by further Sessions judge Satish Kumar Arora who issued death warrants against them. 

The four death row convicts are Mukesh, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Singh and Pawan Gupta. The court had these days reserved order on issuing of death warrants against four convicts in 2012 Delhi gangrape and murder case. 

Further Sessions judge Satish Kumar Arora said he can pronounce the order later today. While urging court to issue the death warrants, the prosecution said, “In between issuance and execution of death warrants of the convicts need to file curative petitions they can do so.”


The counsel for 2 of the convicts — Mukesh and Vinay — said they were in method of filing curative petition within the apex court. “I am proud of the court's decision. The convicts will be hanged at 7 am on January 22.

This decision will be instilled fear in those who commit such crimes,” Badrinath Singh, father of 2012 Delhi gang-rape victim told ANI. Nirbhaya's mother Asha devi on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the judgment saying that her daughter has got justice and therefore, the order will strengthen the trust of people within the judicial system.


“Absolutely. Execution of the four convicts will empower the women of the country. This decision will strengthen the trust of individuals in the judicature,” she said.

On Monday, the court had reserved order on issuing of death warrants against four death row convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case.


The 23-year-old girl was gang raped and murdered by six men on a moving bus on 16 December 2012. The most suspect, Ram Singh, allegedly committed suicide in Tihar Jail throughout the trial. Another suspect was a minor at the time of the commission of the crime and was sent to a reform facility and discharged once 3 years.
