Volvo XC40 Recharge electric SUV India launch Today
Volvo Cars India is set to launch the Volvo XC40 Recharge Electric SUV in India on July 26. The company said the electric SUV will be assembled at Volvo’s Hosakote plant near Bengaluru, Karnataka. The XC40 Recharge, with competitive pricing, is expected to compete against Kia EV6, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is expected to launch later this year.
The Swedish manufacturer will be bringing the facelifted version of the car to our shores with localised assembly. The new version will come with a few cosmetic changes along with two electric motors.
The XC40 Recharge is expected to be powered by a 78kWh battery that delivers a claimed range of 418km on a single charge. The car will come with 150kW DC fast charging that will juice up the car from 10% to 80% in just 28 minutes. With a 50kW charger, the car will fully charge in about 2.5 hours.
The Volvo XC40 Recharge SUV will get two electric motors on each axle that will output 402bhp and 660Nm of torque, which is nearly double what its ICE siblings deliver. However, the car tips the scale at 1,188kg which is 400kg heavier than the former.
In terms of features, the XC40 Recharge comes with a new infotainment system and telematics that are borrowed from the Volvo XC60 facelift. It gets an optional leather-free interior and also includes sharper dials with a new Android-based infotainment system. Other notable features come in the form of a panoramic sunroof, wireless mobile phone charging, connected car tech, powered front seats with memory, and Level 2 Autonomous Driving capability.
At launch, the XC40 Recharge will go up against the likes of the recently launched Kia EV6 and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5, which will also be locally assembled.
Since the company will be locally assembling the XC40 Recharge SUV in India, it is likely to make the XC40 Recharge more competitively priced than other luxury EVs.
The Volvo XC40 Recharge SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 60-70 lakh (ex-showroom).
