Imran Khan To Continue As PM : Pak President

Imran Khan will continue to dispose of his duties as the prime minister, Pakistan President Arif Alvi said hours after the cricketer-turned-politician was de-notified as PM by the cabinet secretary.

Under Article 224 A of the Pakistan Constitution, Khan will dispose of his duties as the PM until an interim/caretaker premiere is appointed.

This came hours after a no-confidence motion against Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government was disallowed by the National Assembly Speaker on Sunday, citing a security threat.

On Sunday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial remarked that the judiciary can interfere to some extent in the proceedings of the National Assembly after arguments on the separation of powers between the judiciary and the legislature were advanced. The court refused to stay the ruling of the Speaker on the rejection of the no-confidence motion.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), said that the opposition will "initiate a legal battle" against the "unconstitutional ruling by the NA Deputy Speaker".
