Taking the next step towards the digital revolution in the country. 

The public authority has declared the dispatch of PM-Wani program to give public Wi-Fi administration the nation over. 

The choice was taken at a bureau meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Apart from this, it was also decided to connect 11 islands of Lakshadweep group with optical fibre cable (OFC) via sea cable for Rs 1072 crore and to start 4G service in remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh and two districts of Assam.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the government is going to launch the Prime Minister's Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-Wani) scheme to strengthen the digital system across the country. Under this, public information workplaces (PDOs) will be set up in the nation. Any supermarket or paan shop or copy shop can be made a PDO. He won't need to enrol, nor need to pay any expense nor take any permit. It will be trailed by PDO aggregator and application designer. The Central Government will give them online registration within 7 days of the application.

Prasad said that there are 120 crore mobile phones in the country and 600 million smartphones. The PM Wani scheme will provide fast-paced broadband Wi-Fi internet service in the villages. The administration will be accessible in the market at serious costs.

He said that the cabinet took the second decision to approve the submarine optical fibre cable connectivity scheme between Kochi and Lakshadweep islands (KLI project) in Kerala.

The task will give an immediate telecom connect between 11 islands of Kochi and Lakshadweep - Kavaratti, Kalpeni, Agati, Amini, Androth, Minicoy, Bangaram, Bitra, Chetlat, Kiltan and Kadmat by means of a committed submarine OFC. 

Prasad said that the project will play an important role in the delivery of e-good governance services to the citizens at their home. Aside from this, the limit improvement of the fisheries area, coconut-based ventures, the travel industry, instructive advancement through distance training and telemedicine offices will help in the medical services area.

This project will help in setting up many enterprises, promoting e-commerce activities and knowledge sharing in educational institutions. The islands of Lakshadweep can possibly turn into an enormous centre as far as coordinations administrations.

He informed that 2374 new towers will be installed in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam's Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts for 4G services, including 1683 towers in Arunachal Pradesh and 691 towers in Assam. It will cost 2029 crore rupees and it is focused to finish this work by December 2022.
